John Herreid - I was with the 79th from May, 1962 to January 1966, at which time the Army in its infinite wisdom decided to send me to Viet Nam. Started as a platoon leader in C Company, then Operations Office in B Company, Battalion Adjutant and lastly company commander of D Company until my transfer to Nam. If anybody would like to get in touch with me, email is john@johnerreid.com.

I was with the 79th Engineer Bn from Feb 1956 until August 12, 1958. We moved from Karlsruhe to Pirmasens in April 1956. In 1957 we were sent TDY to France for 3 months, first to Bussac near Bordeaux for about six weeks, then to Chinon for another six weeks; then back to Pirmasens. Would like to have made a trip back but never did. I'm sure it has changed much. I look at maps and have seen the changes. Nice to see this page and you comments. Bill Terrell Canton NC
